I live a humble life in a little house, on 10 acres atop the Victorian HIghlands on the vast continent of Australia.
I hpe you find my little snippets about starting afresh as a single 50+ on a rural proeprty onteresting informantive and entertaining.
i believe my intention is to write about my adventures on a small farm bordering a national forest that houses a large a wombat opulation, wallabies, kangaroos, echidnas and kookaburras. But fear not, it;s not just gumboots and sploshing about in mud. It’s about trying to blend the proacticalities of rural living with the romance of a country lifestyle. Picture rolling green hills dotted with gently grazing sheep and cattle and picnic tables sitting uner pine tress, coverend in gingham tablecloths and laid with home made lemonade, scones and blackberry jam and cucumber sandwiches and copius amounts of tes served directly from a fine china tea pot. It’s about dressing for the weather wiht flair to traipse through paddocks. I share recipes for comfort food made in a simple country kitchen, along with a myriad of my numerous intersts of stitiching reading and gardening. All because, dear reader, I’d like to provide you wihr an excuse to escape your daily cares.
As a tree changer of 4 years, startign over as a single woman at 53, i have many lessons and experiences to share with anyone who will care to listen.
I made the choice 4 years ago to leave the chaos of the city after my 2 girls had finished school and were on their way learning to live independently. My marriage of 27 years came to an end at the same time.
I’ve had to learn how to live in rural Victoria, I’ve had tolearn how to live without a partner, or family close by. It was a major learning curve and I wish to share the lessons and experiences with any woman who has found heself starting a new life alone in mid life.
I’ve starterd a new life in a new community. My dream is to buiod a greenhouse to grow my own vegetables
Although now living a solitary rural life and working in a number of community services, mainly the little primary school; I started off as an studying and working as an architect in my early 20’s. I love Academia and have continued to study through the years.I am an Anglophile and dream of visiting Oxoford where I can sit ans attend guest lectures. I love antiques, I love the Edwardian and Victorian era but also adore the fashion of the Nouveau. I try to incorporate all of these things into my daily life on a farm.. It’s a rugged lifestyle up here; but my intention is to bring some elements of style to my every day. I love to eat greens and the big project is to complete a greenhouse where I can while away time playing with seeds and pots, lounging on a large whicker chair reading either gardening books or Agatha Christie or DH Lawrwnce, experimenting with water colours and writing poetry.
My architectural background has me constantly trying to change, repair or renew the ranch style home Ilive in. It’s a never ending work inprogress.
My nurturing instincts are satisfied primarily in the care of my flock of 5 sheep that are made up of a motley crew. Husbandry ahs been a steep learning curve. More than battling fierce weather, power outages, dry water wells and land care.
Pull up a chair on my veradah overlooking the paddocks and let me pour you a cuppa
