Welcome fellow wanderer to life on HArmony HIll. A place for homemakers, lovers of all thing country and rural, tree changers and nemophilists. As a 50+ female starting a new life on my own, I share my experiences so other women can also find the confidence to discover their purpose and sense of self even in their latter years. It’s never too late.

It’s been a long journey to find my way to this corner of the world. (LINK OF REG VIC) After life in the city for 54 years. After letting go of 2 young adult girls to blossom into women. After gathering strength to release a 28 year old relationship. After finally discovering a sense of self, I found myself starting over, far far away from the big smoke. It’s taken all the courage I can muster to start a new life filled with new friends, colleagues, threats of floods and fires, renovations and 5 sheep.

Why? Does one ask. Why leave the luxury of inner city living where gas, power, water are all conveniently at your finger tips? Where a myriad of restaurants are around the corner as a convenient alternative to cooking. Where a medical emergency means a 5min drive to the nearest hospital. Where choices of what movie, play or concert to see becomes, oh such a chore!

I have no answer dear friend. It’s just been something laying dormant for many years. A desire, an urge, waiting to finally blossom into a world where life is simply… “simple”. Yes, it proves to be challenging for a 50+ year old. The elements, the work on the land, the work on the house, the power outages, water shortages and the solitary life. But looking up at a star filled sky whilst hugged by a veil of total darkness, listening to the croaking of the tree frogs by the nearby dam, or walking through a forest enveloped by a blanket of white cloud whilst breathing in the scent of the damp gums….. makes more sense than jostling crowds and abusive commuters on roads. Sitting on the verandah watching the vivid iridescent hues of the sun’s setting and rising, listening to the kookaburras laughing, or listening to the trickle of rain slowly forming muddy pools that I will later gladly slosh through in gumboots…. this makes more sense than listening to neighbours music blaring all through the night or cars manically revving up engines in front of my inner suburban house. So here I am dear friends. Finding my way in rural Victoria. Renovating the house on the hill. Keeping 10 acres tidy. Sewing, cooking, writing, and crafting with fabric, yarn abd oils. All this dispersed with interludes of work at the local town’s primary school, and a nearby town’s post office.

Here, life is simple… sprinkled with the magic of the Highlands. And here, I can finally breathe.

So welcome friends to my humble abode. Grab yourself a warming cup of tea, and join in the conversation about anything country, living simply in nature, sharing recipes for warming comfort foods, and the tales of restoring the old homestead.

Join our little community, and subscibe here to keep up to date with all the country gossip, articles on wellness, advice for life after 50, places to visit in regional Victoria, and 101 on living on a farmlet. Glad you dropped in.
